Project – With the merger of two healthcare service providers, Avancer took the project to on-board identities and integration of applications.

Background

The governing boards of two healthcare services providers recently approved an agreement to combine their two health systems. The combination formed an integrated academic healthcare delivery system, spanning more than 60 sites of care across Chicago and its suburbs, including four hospitals, and more than 50,000 user base. Avancer received the mandate to plan and implement on-boarding.

Project Vision
The merger necessitated a need for combining the user population of their IT systems onto a singular IAM platform, to bring synergy between the organization systems and eliminate redundancy. The goal was also to create a streamlined identity and access governance process to on-board employees into the organization going forward.

IAM Implementation Challenges:

• Since two distinct entities were coming under a common umbrella, the merger had to ensure that Identity and Access Management technology is utilized, optimized and completely integrated.
• Differences in user profile & entitlements data needed to be resolved to facilitate amalgamation of distinct provisioning routes, integration of multiple identities and detecting the identity overlaps.
• A strategic look and refinement of the existing access policies in both the organizations was also required.

Project Accomplishment

The prior experience of Avancer to manage merger projects was a key contributing factor to the success of this initiative. With a target to merge with more hospitals and healthcare service providers in future, Avancer created a flexible IAM framework, to facilitate easier on-boarding of new user populations onto the existing platform. A stream of interview sessions were conducted with various department heads to understand the identity and access requirements. Conflicting requirements/operations while provisioning access to the enterprise’s user population were identified & resolved.

• About 8,000 new people were on-boarded into the Oracle IAM Platform.
• Processes were designed to integrate and automate the user provisioning into Active Directory and PeopleSoft target systems.
• New roles, rules and access policies were created with a strategic view.
• Out of the box schedule jobs are customized for the client needs. This was executed without breaking access for existing users of parent company or stalling the IT programs/systems.
• All technologies / functionalities instituted in the IT systems by Avancer were subject to sample runs and verification by the client.
• Avancer used an agile methodology, along with an iterative testing approach for a high-quality, fast successful implementation.

The project has led to the client fully harness the Oracle Platform for an efficient and flexible Identity and Access Management framework in the organization.
